BAO Test Prep, List #2

Ok so I have decided to change my list... again. Yeah yeah yeah, I know, I do this quit a bit. I happen to rather like this list remendously and much more than any other the previous ones I have put up. So here it is:

HQ
The Baron- 105

TR
x5 Warriors, Blaster, Venom- 125
x5 Warriors, Blaster, Venom- 125
x5 Warriors, Blaster, Venom- 125
x5 Warriors, Blaster, Venom- 125
x10 Warriors, Cannon- 100
x10 Warriors, Cannon- 100

HVY
Ravager, Nightshields- 115
Ravager, Nightshields- 115
Voidraven, x3 Shatterfields, Flickers- 185

Allies
Farseer, Doom, Runes, Spear- 98
x3 Jetbikes- 66
x6 Warp Spiders, Exarch w/ x2 Spinner- 149
Nightspinner- 115

FORT
Aegis Defense Line, Quad Gun- 100

So this list I feel is more balanced and can take on all comers. I thin Daemons and pods still give me fits, but with the extra bodies I feel I can take them on more effectively. I know Venoms will be the #1 target for most of my opponents and having extra Cannons vis the Warriors helps me fill their roll when they inevitably die.

I have 5 Relaible AT killers in the two Ravagers, the Voidraven, the Spiders, and the Quadgun. All Venoms have Blasters as backup, and the Nightspinner is always nice since it hits side armor all the time.

AI is covered with the Venoms and the Warrior squads. The Voidraven helps with its missiles and the Nightspinner denies cover to those who think they can hide from me.

Flyers can be taken down in 2 reliable ways and a possible third option when need be. The Voidraven is excellent with its 2 Str 9 AP 2 lances. Also, the Quad Gun. Warp Spiders work well in there too. 14 Str 6 shots is nothing to sneeze at.

With objectives I have 7 troops. 4 are very fragile, but I still have them and all it takes is one guy to capture the objective. The Jetbikes can strike anywhere on the board. The 10 man Warriors are solid from behind the Defense Line and the other can spread out and capture one by me if need be.

The list worked pretty well against Sirus Chappelle in a practice game. Unfortunately my play as General cost me the game, and not the models themselves. Deployment and not moving up my Warriors with the Farseer was my doom.

Let me know if you guys have any worries. I am scared of Flamer/Screamer Daemons but, I need to shoot squads dead and make sure my target priority is on point. Necron Airforce could be a concern, but I think I can still beat that with ease.

YEE!  YEE!

  1. Regarding the nightspinner I think its great but you can experiment with the points on some of the other cool eldar mech like the warp hunter or a flyer. since there is so much time until the bao. that slot is a solid choice i think.

the aegis with warriors I have hatred for in general for the DE list. I think if you bring it you should man it with 120pt Fire Dragons w/Exarch. Same hatred for the foot warriors. Just my take, though.

im personally finding at 1750pts that the farseer and contingent is less and less worthy of points. like f your psychic powers im going to shoot that with even MORE poison. etc.

i think you need to plan to fight and defeat demons at BAO, specially in the mid-later rounds if you are winning. the troops as bubble wrap seems more like a last ditch effort. maybe if beasts are out of the equation you could use more eldar jetbikes or figure out a way to bring a large dark eldar jetbike unit. just ideas I plan to try out before march, anyways.

i think we could sneak two eldar flyers in if it works points wise or is worth it. more food for thought there.

looks a lot better to me then the last one. I like the extra eldar heavy. not keen on defense line or quad gun or warp spiders or farseer or eldar jetbike tax or walking warriors.

    ;-D

    See you soon!

  2. Appreciate the comments! This is definately a starting point to see where things can go.

I like the Night Spinner because I forsee many people bring Defense line with Sabre Platforms and blobsquads to hide behind. Night Spinner migitates that threat.

I have been thinking of giving Urien a go again with some Uber Grotesques on foot as they would protect me from Daemons a bit as they will kill any Daemon units in CC. But, the point cost is heavy and it will cut into my troop total and my AA. Trying to balance it out.

What are you using for AA? 2 flyers? 1? I just dont think we can have it all. I mean, if we go for Flyer defense, Daemosn kinda wreck us. If we go Daemon defense Flyerwings screw us.

Part of me is actually thinking, Flyers might not be needed as I honestly think Sabre Platforms and Flakk will be runnign rampant at the tourny.

Again I appreciate the comments, and I'll try and think of a better Eldar detachment for you! :)

  3. Ill post my first draft BAO list soon. I agree on sabres being everywhere and DE dont have a ton of AA options. Even With Eldar And Quad gun its a lot of points into shit that doesnt do a lot.

I will have 1 or 2 void ravens, and like 20 lances/blasters. blasters on warriors that can take advantage of skyfire objectives. depends on kind of flyers too. i can be super agressive and put cronair on the back foot and the flyers cant kill beasts which Will kill the troops when they drop. almost the same for IG as I have enough shit to be killing and shooting and chasing down anyways then to get overly concerned with getting rid of vendettas. single stormravens and stormtalons are mostly a nuisance. nid and demon flyers die to poison. heldrakes are a bitch but hopefully i can kill thier army faster and they only brought 2 instead of 3 lol.

beasts nullify everything almost in demon army but soulgrinders.

beasts lances poison is the plan. or dark angels.

  4. btw warp hunter is 125 pts. fires a 36" d-cannon large blast barrage 2+ to wound instant death haywire (5-6 pen) vs av. vs 115pt nightspinner. bao accepts conversions or scratch built models. a warp hunter is just a falcon with a huge cannon.

voidmines are good for those silly troops just walking around behind aegis too.

I have 5 extra razorwing bases btw. and could snap together some type of nid kymera easy enough. boa is a long way away, it wouldent be too much effort. As a fyi.

  5. Whats your normal beat set up? You run 1 Clawed Fiend, 6 Razors and the rest in Khymeras?

I'll take a look at the Warp Hunter rules. I'm still in the process of making lists and testing some things out.

I think we need some sort of assault element that can deal with Daemons and tie up DSers long enough for us to wipe the rest of their army.

Or Dark Angels? You have a DA army?

  6. Nowadays pretty strictly:

    5 beastmasters (they are characters)
1 clawed fiend (seems optional but very important)
    4 razorwings
    10 kymera

Then its about formation. the units formation changes drastically depending on whats going on in the battlefield. thats like a 5 part article.

Suffice to say I generally run 3 beast masters at point, not touching each other but all touching the fiend, behind the fiend is a razorwing and a kymera then baron. The two extra beast masters hang out protected in the middle or back of unit. The beast masters look out sir to the fiend as much as possible and die first to shooting. The fiend is there for 2 primary purposes. The first is to soak up 4 wounds before losing one model. The second is similar, so that with correct placement, on the charge your opponent needs to cause 4+ wounds on overwatch to impact your charge distance.

The full unit with baron needs to loose at least 5 models for a leadership check. The baron after the fiend is for similar reasons. He is the final wound stop to prevent a leadership check on turn 1 hopefully. He will look out sir to the razorwing usually depending on what munitions are being tossed at the unit.

    ...etc...etc..etc...

The beasts are my only really assault element lately besides opportunistic hellions often buffed by farseer.

Their deal vs demons is that they wrap your whole army with invul saves, and arent part of your troops. So they mostly die, just not entirely. I havent seen a demon army yet stand up to the poison wave that follows. Even with bolts and soulgrinders getting into the venoms, the hellions and warrior-raiders still pack the majority of the poison, and it will all shoot.

  7. I resisted for a great time. Put those 10mans in raiders with splinter racks and even the veteran de player will be amazed.
